April was National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo) and since this is Tower’s 75th Anniversary, we have put together this calendar of prompts for 30 days of poetic fun!

  • Use one of the poems you picked up at the last workshop or Open Mic, or print out your own with this template: Directions —
    1. Print double-sided and handwrite or paste your own poem to the blank area.
    2. Tape up inside a bus shelter or other transit waiting area. Take a photo and share online with TPS.

#TPS75 February Anniversary Challenge: Spreading the Love of Poetry

 

Instructions: Print the blank template back-to-back to end up with two copies that can be filled out. Copy a few lines of a love poem onto the valentine template and give it to someone, leave it in an office or pin it on a bulletin board somewhere. Valentine poem template

Special Membership 75^th Anniversary Anthology

(Membership Only Edition)

Send in one of your poems, your favourite/best work. May be previously published. Maximum length of poem is 42 lines including blank lines for stanza breaks. If you have a picture that goes with the poem, you may submit that as well (jpeg) and it may be used as part of the book cover.

(The membership Renga will also be included in the book.)

Remembrance Day Themed Poems…

As one of our monthly challenges during this coming 75^th Anniversary year, we invite you to submit a poem about peace or with a Remembrance Day theme. The Anniversary Committee will distribute copies of your poem to Canadian Legions across our Region.

It can be either a new poem of yours or a previously published poem.
We have provided several possibilities for stationery should you choose to download and use them.

Send your finished poem to Rebecca Clifford at becca.clifford@gamil.com by November 8^th so that the poems can be printed and distributed to the Legions by November 11^th.

Include Tower Poetry 75^th Anniversary Project at the top of the page or under your name.

Renga  – TPS 75^th Anniversary: Members Collaborative Poem

“Renga” is a collaborative style of poetry of Japanese origin dating back to 700’s AD. In its traditional form, strict rules govern the required sounds/syllables, similar to Haiku (which developed after Renga). For a Renga poem, multiple poets contribute their own words in succession.

As an adaptation of Renga style, you are invited contribute a couplet – 2 lines, approximately 15 words in total, to create this unique poem.  Like a chain letter, the poem will grow with each successive contribution. It will be capped off with a final couplet by a committee member to ensure a unified conclusion to the poem. Our Members Collaborative Renga will feature in the TPS 75^th Anniversary Limited Edition Anthology.

We are starting this off at the October 18^th workshop, and it again in November so you can see how it grows.  If the muse speaks to you, you can add your couplet in person.  If not, look for an email inviting you to contribute.

Instructions:

1. On October 18^th, our Renga poem begins at our workshop. Our Theme is:

Where does the Time go?  Seasons & Passing Time.  75 Years of Words

2. Each Member will be approached to contribute their couplet as described above.
3. For those who are not inspired to contribute in person, an email will be sent from MarilynClose@yahoo.com
   • Please reply at your earliest opportunity with your contribution. Should you not wish to participate, please reply to the email with DECLINE in the subject line so that another may take your opportunity.  We want to ensure all members can contribute before December’s workshop.
4. As a contributing poet, please read the poem as it comes to you, add your couplet at the bottom and return by reply email to Marilyn so she can contact the next member.

We hope this challenge appeals to your sense of adventure, sparks your imagination, and stirs your creative juices.  Have fun with the process!
