MANTRA OF FOUR MOODS
OF THE SEA

by Margaret Lottridge
Saskatchewan, Canada

My mind is calm and peaceful
         smooth and serene as glass
quiet is the sea at dawn
clear mirror to the skies that pass.

My mind rides waves of tempest
impetuous rollers rise forty feet high
crash below in millions of frothy bubbles
tossed wildly    clouds pass in dark sky.

My mind runs swift with the current's flow
carried forward in direction and aim
gentle ripples above    deep strength below
winds move clouds in song without a name.

My mind is lulled by the rocking seas
the shallow rise and fall of each wave
forward and backward in equal time
a lullaby for senses and memory to save.
