HER WISH

by Dinh Le Doan
Quebec, Canada

In this tourist area of the Old City she sits,
through her long hours upon its sidewalk,
crafting and selling her voodoo dolls:

she crafts their bodies after her body,
their faces after her face, and infuses her
spirit into each of the dolls that she creates;

and she labours hard to sell her dolls as if
to cast her spirit more far and wide,
around the world, making her be more than
her self — as if she wished to be her art.
