SEPTEMBER SONG

by Richard L. Provencher
Nova Scotia, Canada

Tired wings
seek rest from
long journey's flight

silhouettes in formation,
a landscape
from horizon's calm

feathery leaders aiming
for a vacant field,
waves of geese now
descending
in orderly swoops,
unfolding as a stream

Canadas, distant
from Hudson's shore,
vagabonds
looking for a home

and the land provides,
as an army of honkers
gathers noisily within
