Moving Day

one last look
perched high
on packed truck

wavering facades

faded brick row-houses
tucked behind dark alley fence
sun angling along linked roofs

no Mom peering out kitchen window
no curtains pulled back at the dormer
     on watch for kids to play

not a tree for climbing    bush for hiding
no dog chasing bees
nor cat asleep on back stoop

life scoured out
on moving day
