Power Surge, Janusz Wrobel *

POWER  STRUGGLE

by Chris Butler

Walking beneath tall hydro lines
I hear high buzz of electric bees,
coiled in dark ceramic hives
above air-conditioned trees
Tis the season of probable Blackouts
A jolt of pollen makes me sneeze
Dandelions strain to blow delicate fuse
that could bring me to my knees

Seeds sizzle on an electron wind
while rich ragweed rumours spread
I step over lush rhubarbed wire,
electrified and red
I have been shocked by thistle talk,
heard sharpened tongues share their dread,
but cuttings always wither
once summer rains have fled

Weeds flourish in fields of microwaves
beneath towers where power flows
I feel my soul pleasantly tickled
by feathered wisps tall milkweed grows
A wild rose within thick cockleburs
calls to me with saucy pose,
I crouch low and steal a scented kiss
from the spark only nature knows
