Artwalk POETRY and ART

Here and There, by Sheila G. Campbell

OF MOUNTAINS AND POETRY

by Eleanore Kosydar

In the beginning, poetry
shaped
these mountains
with rhythm, spirit,
music and rhyme

In the fullness of time
came sages
weary of civilisation
to live as hermits:
seek the essence
of beauty and being

Thus mountains
gave birth
to poetry, and
to exquisite paintings
and the playing of flutes:
centuries of solitude a world apart
following the moon into the mountains,1
gazing peacefully into the distance; 2

quiet souls living
among a thousand clouds and ten thousand streams 3
in the other world/ which no one owns 4
pondering mysteries of the universe
in the rarefied mountain air
