Lady Falls, by Donna Ibing

LADY FALLS

by Chris Butler

I am a woman of multiple talents
I can speak without parting my lips
I've made a hundred rocks swoon and tremble
with thunderous flex of my watery hips

I cast spells that replenish dry wishing wells
I place magic in each pool's reflection
My mist can rise above towering trees
to enhance a rainbow's deception

I have been called a beautiful goddess
Life has been sacrificed at my feet
I've doused the last cries of tumbling lovers
who felt death was the perfect retreat

I inspire sparrows to circle with hawks,
then spray shadows they chase beneath sun
Whistling shrieks from quarrelling beaks
meld their music with rapids I've spun

I am a woman who bares her mysteries
They flash and sparkle to draw your gaze
This effusive lady wants to be admired,
vaporessing all who can feel amazed
