Beautiful Balloon and Bubbles, by Cora Brittan*

BALLOONED

by Chris Butler

When God permits,
and bright stars align,
when dreamwinds lift round sail,
Selene’s yellow balloon
takes aim at olde moon,
guided by cloudless trail

She rides the night sky
to scatter sweet dreams,
placed in the bubbles she blows
Selene waves soapy wand
from dusk clear to dawn
setting dreams free as she goes

Bubbles burst upon sleepers
in maternity gowns,
snug between pillows and mates,
upon Moms soon-to-be,
ballooned and happy,
sharing dreams expectation creates

Selene and the moon
are one and the same,
blessing life with intangible force
Umbilically tethered
to mankind’s endeavour
of following God-given course
