there must be more to forty years of love than the ache in my chest and a receptor for your touch there must be more than biology and chemistry and circumstance there must be more to forty years of love than anniversaries and hallmark empathies fine china and small household appliances more than whines and hurts and frights and three children grown into their own loves there must be more to forty years of love than shared experience and photo albums in the closet something more than this home of comfortable chairs empty rooms and the smell of life al dente on the walls there must be more to forty years of love than a garden a space in my heart a poem
