SPARKLING WINE

by Elizabeth Evans
(1916-2001)
Canada

the bubbles burst and fade
golden and twinkling
sharp in the throat
and chiffon in the mind
young is the time for loves and dancing
lips drinking the golden grapes in sunlight
and green shades into midnight
and dark blues to black velvet
and stars with galaxies
as it is in that best of wines
bubbles in the glass
