Mother

by April A. Severin
Ontario, Canada

"There's a petite black cat
dead up the road," I cry;
"I moved her to the grass."

From her riding lawnmower
the neighbour replies,
"Only a barn animal."

Then she adds,
"She was teaching her kittens
to hunt at night."
