Rockface

by Jean McCallion

After Creation’s first day
a welter of weather
modelled you from wet clay

Sculpted your rockface angular
a geometric map of sorts
rectangular triangular

Your flat surfaces and folds
lined blue-veined coloured
gray/ochre/yellow/pink.

Pines blow their woodwinds . . .
low whispered notes heard
but not understood.

You stand rockstill stoic:
icon from a glacial age.
Viewed old yet ever new.
